Good progress was made at last Saturday 7th June’s working party. Most of the relatively easy to remove parts have now been taken off the tender including everything attached to the bulkhead such as cupboards and tool lockers. In addition the tender handrails and lamps have been taken off, with everything labelled up and stored safely in the containers. Meanwhile, a start has been made with unbolting the cab roof, and the ardous and dirty job of chiselling out the concrete in the smokebox continues. It will soon be necessary to split the engine from the tender so that we can gain better access underneath the tender, in preparation to split tank from chassis. Such progress has been made that it may soon be time to consider taking the tubes out – things are getting real now! Photos below are not particularly technical but show the happy faces of volunteers at work…..
