The Great Central Railway (Nottingham) runs along the Northern half of the remaining Great Central Railway mainline from Loughborough to Ruddington, and also encompasses a branch line to the site of the old Ministry of Defence (MOD) depot which is now the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre. It is an excellent place for a family day out, featuring model railways, an extensive miniature railway operated by the Nottingham Society of Model and Experimental Engineers, a fine collection of heritage buses, The Heritage Cafe serving a wide selection of hot and cold meals, drinks and snacks, plus the extensive Rushcliffe Country Park is just next door.
