The initial purpose of the Group, to restore ex-LNER class B1 no. 61264 to full main line standard, was achieved in 1997.
The aim is now to maintain the locomotive at that standard and to operate it on both the main line and on preserved lines for the education and recreational benefit of future generations.
The Thompson B1 Locomotive Group consists of two bodies:
Thompson B1 Locomotive Ltd (TBLL)
Thompson B1 Locomotive Limited owns the locomotive. It was formed in 1982 and is a private company limited by shares. You can become a shareholder in the Limited Company – for more details please enquire.
Thompson B1 Locomotive Trust (TBLT)
The Trust operates and maintains the locomotive on behalf of the Limited Company under a long-term lease agreement. The Trust is a registered charity (charity number 326367). The Trust is also the majority shareholder in the Limited Company. For details of how to join the Trust, please see our MEMBERSHIP page.
