We are pleased to report great success with our fundraising efforts before, during and after the Flying Scotsman ‘Legendary Journeys’ event at GCR Ruddington.
Spread over 8 days in total (16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 29th, 30th and 31st May), we raised over £3700 towards the loco’s overhaul. This income has come from two main sources:
- The sale of donated books, pictures, railwayana and miscellaneous items, all donated to us through the generosity of our members and wider supporters. After a big sort-out of our donated stock on 16th May, we are pleased to report that over half of it was then turned into cash (also helping with space in our containers), but fear not, there is still plenty left for future sales!
- The sale of raffle tickets (closing date Friday 12th June at midnight). Tickets are still on sale until then: https://61264.sumupstore.com/product/raffle This has contributed £740 towards the total £3700 above (and still rising as more people buy tickets).
Our regular social media postings around the Flying Scotsman visit also generated a huge spike in online engagement, which is all to the good as well.
So thank you to everybody that has donated to us, and an even bigger thank you to all our volunteers who turned out to run the sales stand and talk to interested people over the 8 days in total. Most of all thank you to 60103 Flying Scotsman for being the ‘global celebrity’ that brings so many people in!
